POSITION SUMMARY
The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening the community, and the nation’s larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and serves our members and community as a whole, through our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Helps Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA and ARC guidelines. We will train all swim instructors, no experience is needed.
· Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
· Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and if appropriate refer students and parents to other programs.
· Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports).
· Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
· Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes all reports as necessary.
· Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum age of 15.
· Certifications: Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid or take a class within 60 days
· Should demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
· Must be willing to try and learn to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift an average size child.
